Celebrate Earth Day!

This April 22nd as we at Ralph Thayer Automotive observe Earth Day in Metro Detroit, consider the many ways that you can go green in your own neighborhood. Enjoy the following Earth Day activities.

Earth Day Celebration

The Earth Day Celebration is held at West Bloomfield Park from 3 to 6 pm at The Nature Room inside the Recreation Activities Center. This fun, free event features a wide variety of activities, including an opportunity to make your own trail mix and recycled craft. Children will also have the opportunity to make sleeping mats to be donated to the homeless, and the first 50 kids will receive a free tree seedling.

MI Earth Day Fest 2016

Taking place Friday, April 22nd, Saturday, April 23rd and Sunday April 24th, the free MI Earth Day Fest in Downtown Rochester will feature a wide variety of green products, services and exhibits. In addition to local and organic products and services, there will be entertainment, as well as rock climbing, a straw bale maze and plenty of arts and crafts and giveaways.

Earth Day in Madison Heights

Going on from 3:30 to 5 pm at Red Oaks Nature Center, the Caring for Planet Earth! event will feature demonstrations on how to make compost and “seed bomb” for pollinators. Short guided hikes through Friendship Woods will also take place, as well as the opportunity to watch a nature movie.

Earth Day Celebration at Heritage Park

Taking place from 5-7 pm, the 4th Annual Earth Day Celebration in Farmington Hills is a free event which features a wide variety of fun, earth-friendly activities, including live music, archery, hayrides and exhibits that feature ways to conserve energy and benefit the planet. There will also be plenty of tasty food and a seedling giveaway.

Earth Day Cleanup and Craft at Drayton Plains Nature Center

Attendees of this event to be held from 6-8 pm will be picking up litter scattered about the nature center that has accumulated over the winter. Participants will also get to make recycled crafts and plant seedlings. Bring glass jars and craft supplies for free admission.

GreenFest at the Detroit Zoo

April 16-17, the Detroit Zoo will be hosting GreenFest. There will be eco-friendly crafts, chemistry demonstrations, zookeeper talks, games and more. Bring an old cellphone to donate for discounted admission of $9.

Earth Day Extravaganza at Nankin Mills

New for 2016, this celebration of our beautiful Earth includes lots of entertainment for kids. Listen to live earth-friendly music with Joe Reilly, make a craft with Arts and Scraps, check out the birds of prey from Leslie Science and Nature Center, explore the Huron-Clinton Metroparks’ Mobile Learning Center and more.
