Summertime has arrived and along with the season comes the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. June is National Camping month, and to celebrate, Ralph Thayer Automotive offers these camping tips to consider before you head out to spend time in the great outdoors.
Find a Campground
When choosing the ideal campground, look for a site that has some tree cover, which offers views of plants and wildlife and can provide coverage in the event of bright sun or light rain. There is also likely to be an abundance of firewood at such sites. In campgrounds with amenities like picnic tables, fire pits and bathrooms; get a spot as nearby as possible.
If you prefer to camp out on your own in the wilderness, check the area for any trees that look unstable, as they could potentially fall on your campground and create a safety hazard. Fallen tree limbs in the campground are an indication that there may be an unstable tree nearby.
Choose Your Shelter
Are you an RV or tent camper? If you like the idea of staying in the outdoors, but prefer a comfortable bed and some of the comforts of home like indoor plumbing, an RV is your best bet. Until you’re sure you want to do a lot of RV camping, rent a camper.
If you prefer to rough it and want to spend your trip sleeping in a tent, choose one that fits your needs. When selecting the size of the tent, keep in mind that large tents are more difficult to put up and break down than smaller models. When you set up your tent, consider the direction of the wind so that you avoid campfire smoke blowing at you when you’re trying to sleep.
There are a few camping essentials that make the experience the best it can be. Make sure to take the following on your outdoor stay.
At Ralph Thayer Automotive, we wish you an enjoyable National Camping month. Before you head out, schedule an auto checkup to make sure your vehicle is ready for your camping adventure.
